Amy and I left Playa Del Carmen via bus, directly to Tulum for 32 pesos
each with ADO which took approximately an hour.
Initially we were not going to stop in
Tulum but we heard really good reports about the 'Weary Traveler' hostel
in Tulum, the cents and the Mayan ruins so we decided to give it a go. For approximately 150 pesos they
give you a free choice of breakfast, water & an option of a cheap
BBQ for 50 pesos with two beers and free salads etc....Quite a good
deal, and trust me, i know a good deal when i see one. In addition the
hostel has live music on each night and we had the chance to see some
traditional salsa dancing and music, quite the treat.

Stopping in
Tulum was a really good choice I would come to realise shortly as we
had the opportunity to see some amazing locations and undertake some fun
activities. Once everything was packed away in our room, we
hired a bike at the end of the street for 40 pesos for 4 hours and made a
way to the la ruins of Tulum, so...........
I make my way to the ruins on bike which takes about 25 minutes and lock up my bike just to find out that the ruins are closed.. I then proceed back to my bike and realise that i didn't have a key with my bike lock!!!! so i had to pay 100 pesos for a new lock and a taxi there and back to chop the lock with a hack saw. so my cheap bike ride ended up costing 240 pesos. As the Ruins were closed we made our way to the beach instead to soak up some sun and view the ruins from the beach, still very amazing!
The following day was so much fun, we woke up early morning and paid a guide to do some snorkeling in the Casa del Cenote with a flashlight.
If your unsure, a cenote is a deep natural pit, characteristic of
Mexico, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes
groundwater underneath. Cenotes were sometimes used by the ancient
Maya for sacrificial offerings. The term derives from a word used by the
low-land Yucatan Maya, "Ts'onot" refers to any location with
accessible groundwater. It was quite the experience.
After
we had snorkelled the cenote for about two hours we made our way to the
beach and had an opportunity to swim with some turtles and sting rays
in the outer reef and then make our way back to the hostel. The total
cost for the 5 hours including lunch, entry and transportation was $45
u.s, very good value for money.
Until Next Time!
